Six times Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d’Huez is one of the favorite finish places in the Tour de France. The Alpe d’Huez is known as the “Dutch Mountain” as a Dutchman won 8th of the first 14 finishes!

On 06-06-2006 a small group of people from the Netherlands raised money for the Dutch Cancer Society by cycling the Alpe d’Huez 6 times in one day! The idea was to set a goal that initially sounded impossible and the slogan therefore became “Opgeven is geen optie” or in English “Giving up is not an option”. The event has now turned into a yearly event in which people commit themselves to make the impossible possible and with that help fight cancer!

Now, what are the impossible targets that each individual participant commits to?

Each participant will collect at least 2.500 Euros and aims to raise 7.500 Euros.
Each participant will cycle the Alpe d'Huez 6 times in one day.

Over the last few years the event has grown from raising 300.000 Euros in 2006 to over 5 million Euros in 2009. The impossible target in 2010 is to raise at least 10 million Euros despite the economic downturn and the financial crisis! 100% of the funds raised will go to the Dutch Cancer Society.

This year Imi Lammers, Thomas Verstraeten and Ronald Lammers decided to participate as the “Polderklimmers” and make the impossible possible. Last year Imi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Fortunately she recovered following a thyroidectomy operation and radioactive iodine treatment.

Unfortunately there are still too many people that do not recover from cancer and therefore a lot of research is needed. On the third of June 2010 we and 2000 other fellow countrymen will make the impossible possible and support the fight against cancer! It will be a spectacular and emotional event.
